June 1999
In June of 1999, Sean and Marbeth Carew, our founders, packed up their family and everything they knew to embark on a new journey to where they felt the call of God, Providence, Rhode Island. What was once a jewelry manufacturing plant now became the first building of The Providence Rescue Mission, a division of Rhode Island Rescue Ministries.
With a teenager and three small children, they worked tirelessly to transform the halls of this warehouse into a shelter, chapel, kitchen, and office. God brought in individuals and groups, large and small, to install floors, wire electricity, and create the building you see today. |

Now here we are nearly 19 years later, and God has been so faithful! We now have three properties used to serve our community and reach the broken and needy. Our free dental clinic offers over $300,000 of free dental care every year. We shelter nearly 100 individuals every single night, 365 days a year. Our community outreach has taken off with our program for neighborhood kids, weekly food pantry, and weekly clothing giveaway.
Countless men and women have had their lives redeemed from the grasp of drugs and alcohol through our residential recovery programs for both men and women. We feed an average of nearly 200 people every day. As we approach the future of the Mission, we cannot even begin to imagine what God has planned. Thank you for being with us as we serve our community for years to come! |
